Description
Of the six states U.S. Route 66 traversed in its heyday, its shortest extent was in Kansas. Entering the state from Oklahoma near Baxter Springs, it then made a right turn at Riverton, then exited Kansas east of Galena. In all, it spent just a shade over 11 miles (18 km) within Kansas’s borders. The Route 66 designation was decommissioned in 1985. Kansas then replaced the portion of it east of Riverton with its own state route designation, K-66. At the Missouri line, it changes over to Missouri Route 66.
We made our recreation of the K-66 marker to the exact state standards used when the highway was established in 1985. The layout and fonts are completely accurate and true to the signage as of that date. It depicts the state route number, 66, atop a gold sunflower background. We offer both variants of signage that Kansas used interchangeable during this era—the shorter, wider Series D numerals, as well as the taller, narrower Series C style. Both versions make an excellent addition to any collection of Route 66 or vintage highway memorabilia.
We offer our K-66 marker in sizes ranging from 12 inches square all the way up to 36 inches square. All of them are flat printed on high-quality, heavy-gauge steel, right here in the good old US of A. It is a non-reflective sign. (If you would like a different size or route number, we can do that! Please do not hesitate to inquire about custom orders.)
