Texas Beaumont El Paso mileage sign

Texas is a big state. Really big. Even though this is somewhat obvious on the map, it may still be hard to judge the true scale of the state. Just to underscore just how big Texas is, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has installed a mileage sign on Interstate 10 just after entering the state from Louisiana. It gives the mileage to nearby Beaumont, as well as El Paso, on the other end of the state. The distance? 857 miles, or over twelve hours assuming you can average 70 mph the whole way. In fact, this sign is closer to Jacksonville, Florida on the Atlantic coast than it is El Paso!

Our Beaumont El Paso mileage sign is a faithful recreation of the original sign. We’ve made it as realistic as possible by precisely following the TxDOT D2-2 standards in its design. We also use the classic FHWA Series E Modified fonts that were in service for years along I-10. The original size according to spec is 108 in. × 30 in. (that’s 9 feet long). You can get it in the original size if you like, but we also have scaled it down to much more manageable sizes, all the way down to 22½ in. × 6¼ in.

Our Beaumont El Paso mileage sign is flat printed on heavy 14-gauge steel right here in the United States. It is non-reflective, and includes mounting holes—perfect for everyday enjoyment, indoors or outdoors.
